The building opened in 2005 and replaced earlier proposals for a much taller structure on the same site. The shift toward a smaller-scale development reflected broader changes in how Chicago was approaching new commercial construction.
The structure houses the headquarters of Sidley Austin law firm, reinforcing Chicago's position as a center for legal services in North America.
