PrivateBank Theatre, Theatre in The Loop district, Chicago, United States.
PrivateBank Theatre is a multi-floor performance venue in The Loop with 1,800 seats divided between orchestra and balcony sections. The interior combines restored early 20th-century elements with modern facilities for contemporary productions.
Built in 1906 as the Majestic Theatre, it closed during the Great Depression before reopening in 1945 under new management. The Shubert Organization took over operations and brought Broadway productions back to the city.
The theater takes its name from a bank, though it now hosts classic performances that draw audiences from across the city. Most visitors arrive in the evening dressed formally and use intermission to gather in the lobby.
The venue stands at 18 West Monroe Street with wheelchair access and refreshment stands in the lobby. Parking is available nearby, and the entrance sits within walking distance of several subway stations.
A renovation in 2005 uncovered parts of the original architecture in the entrance area that had been hidden beneath later alterations for decades. Visitors can now see moldings and plasterwork that had not been visible since the 1930s.
