Cool Springs

Cool Springs is a two-story Greek Revival residence in Kershaw County with a raised brick basement and 64 Doric columns supporting tiered verandahs on its exterior. The estate also includes horse stables, a natural spring, and granite gate posts that together form the complete picture of a 19th-century plantation-style property.

The house was built in 1832 and underwent significant remodeling during the 1850s. Its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 recognized its architectural value to the region.

The name refers to the natural spring on the property, which held practical and symbolic importance for the household. Visitors can observe how water features were woven into the daily life and design of a 19th-century estate.

The property sits along Kershaw Highway on 16 acres of land that visitors can explore on foot. The sprawling grounds make it possible to see both the main house and the various structures scattered across the landscape.
