Goodwill Plantation, Historic plantation in Eastover, United States.
Goodwill Plantation is a historic plantation property in South Carolina with ten preserved buildings scattered across approximately 3,200 acres. The estate includes residential structures, a mill building, and various outbuildings dating from different periods.
Daniel Huger established the plantation around 1795 and later developed one of the first systems to drain swampland for agriculture. The property changed hands several times over the years and remained an active agricultural enterprise for much of its history.
The buildings on the property show how people lived and worked together during the antebellum period. Visitors can see the differences in the houses, which reflect different social roles of that time.
The property is privately owned and located off the main road near Eastover. Visitors should check in advance about access, as the site cannot be entered without the owner's permission.
The estate has a connection to P.T. Barnum and reportedly housed circus animals at one point. This unusual chapter in the property's later years shows the many different purposes it served over time.
