Good Hope Baptist Church
Good Hope Baptist Church, Greek Revival Baptist church in Eastover, United States.
Good Hope Baptist Church is a wooden frame structure with a gabled roof and a classical columned front entrance located in Eastover along U.S. Route 378. The building occupies roughly one acre and includes a cemetery where members have been buried for generations.
The building was constructed in 1857 by John McLauchlin on land donated by James H. Seay. It started as an extension of Congaree Baptist Church before gaining independence as its own congregation in 1866.
The interior features an original gallery that once separated worshippers and reflects how services were organized in that era. This design choice is one of the few surviving examples of its kind in the region's Protestant churches.
The church is easily visible from the main road and sits in a quiet, rural setting with parking available nearby. Since it remains an active congregation, it's worth checking ahead to confirm visiting times or attending a service.
A wooden addition built in 1950 on the north side matched the original materials and design details with care. This thoughtful expansion allowed the structure to serve changing community needs while keeping the historic appearance intact.
