The Progressive Club, Civil rights clubhouse in Johns Island, Charleston County, US.

The Progressive Club includes four distinct sections containing a grocery store, meeting spaces, dormitory lodging, and educational facilities on River Road.

Founded in 1948 by Esau Jenkins and Joe Williams, the organization constructed its permanent clubhouse in 1963 to advance civil rights through education.

The site functioned as a Citizenship School where African American residents learned about voter registration procedures and political participation during the 1960s.

Located at 3377 River Road, the building provided legal assistance, adult education programs, child care services, and community gathering spaces until 1989.

Between 1961 and 1965, approximately 1,600 Citizenship School teachers received training at this facility, making it central to civil rights education.
