Vehicular Security Center, Security checkpoint building at World Trade Center, New York City, US.
The Vehicular Security Center is an underground facility at the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan that manages all vehicle traffic through tunnels beneath the entire complex. The building enables secure entry and exit for deliveries, tour buses, and parking access for visitors and tenants throughout the site.
The facility opened in 2017 and was part of the extensive rebuilding of the World Trade Center that began after 2011. The project created a new security system for vehicle access beneath the entire site.
Liberty Park sits atop the center, featuring the rebuilt St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church that replaces the original structure destroyed on September 11.
Visitors may notice little of this underground facility since it operates mainly behind the scenes to keep the complex running smoothly. Those visiting the World Trade Center benefit indirectly from the security and order this installation provides.
While excavating for this building, workers discovered an eighteenth-century sailing vessel about 20 feet below ground near the former World Trade Center site. The discovery offered insights into Lower Manhattan's waterfront history.
