America's Response Monument, Bronze memorial statue in Liberty Park, New York, United States.
America's Response Monument is a bronze sculpture in Liberty Park, New York, showing a mounted soldier. The figure stands nearly five meters tall and weighs over two tonnes.
Sculptor Douwe Blumberg created the memorial to honor soldiers who fought in Afghanistan after September 11, 2001. It was unveiled in 2011 and later moved to its current location.
The name refers to military missions that began after the 2001 attacks and relied on soldiers mounted on horseback. The rider wears gear from those years, including saddle blankets and bridles in Afghan style.
The sculpture stands on a viewing platform overlooking the memorial site below. Visitors can enter the park freely and walk around the figure from all sides.
Pieces of steel from the World Trade Center were incorporated into the bronze casting and now form part of the sculpture. Other fragments traveled with soldiers during their missions and lie buried in Afghan soil.
