Old Berkeley County Courthouse, County courthouse in Mount Pleasant, United States.
The Old Berkeley County Courthouse is a rectangular brick structure with double staircases leading to the main entrance on the second floor, featuring stucco exterior walls in Victorian style. The building occupies a substantial plot within the Mount Pleasant Historic District.
The building was constructed in 1884 as the courthouse for Berkeley County but served in this role for only 14 years. When Moncks Corner became the new county seat in 1898, the courthouse functions relocated there.
After losing its court function, the building became a gathering place for Baptist and Lutheran congregations from 1898 to 1968. This religious purpose gave it new meaning in the community's spiritual life.
The building sits at 331 King Street within the Mount Pleasant Historic District and is easy to reach on foot. Its central location allows visitors to combine a stop here with exploring other historic sites nearby.
The structure now carries the name G. McGrath Darby Building and received listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. This official recognition marks its importance to the region's heritage.
