GCR Audio, Recording studio in Allentown district, Buffalo, US
GCR Audio is a recording studio housed in a historic building on Franklin Street in Buffalo, equipped with an analog Solid State Logic 4040G console and modern Pro Tools HD4 recording system. The space contains professional microphones, vintage equipment, drums, guitars, and amplifiers that support recording, mixing, and mastering work.
The building started in 1864 as a carriage house and was repurposed as St. Mary's Seminary in 1890. In 1976, acoustic designer John Storyk converted it into a professional recording studio.
The studio has recorded music for numerous artists including Yes, Melanie, Rick James, Ani DiFranco, Mark Russell, and the Goo Goo Dolls.
The studio operates by appointment only as it is an active working space for professional sessions. The location in downtown Buffalo is accessible by public transportation and situated near other arts venues.
The studio has attracted recording work from both established and emerging artists across different genres over several decades. Its combination of historic character with state-of-the-art technical capabilities creates an unusual environment for contemporary music production.
