Union Trust Bank Company Building, bank building in East St. Louis, Illinois
The Union Trust Bank Company Building is a bank structure in neoclassical style in East St. Louis. It features tall columns, symmetrical forms, and detailed stonework that define its exterior.
The building was designed and constructed between 1922 and 1926 by architect Thomas Imbs. It arose at a time when the city wanted to rebuild confidence following economic difficulties.
This building was where the community handled its financial matters and where business leaders gathered. Its classical design reflected the trust the city wanted to place in its economic future.
The building sits at the corner of Missouri and Collinsville Avenue in the downtown area. You can view the classical architecture from outside and observe the symmetry of the columns and stone facade.
The building is one of the last surviving examples of neoclassical bank architecture in the city. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014 to preserve its historical and architectural significance.
