Gateway Geyser, Water fountain in East St. Louis, Illinois.

The Gateway Geyser propels water to a height of 630 feet using three 800-horsepower pumps that release 7,500 gallons of water per minute.

Malcolm W. Martin established the Gateway Center of Metropolitan St. Louis in 1968 to acquire land and construct this fountain across from the Gateway Arch.

Four smaller fountains surround the central geyser to represent the convergence of the Mississippi, Missouri, Illinois, and Meramec rivers in the region.

Visitors can access the geyser from Interstate highways I-55, I-70, or I-64 by taking Exit 2A and following West Broadway to the designated parking area.

The Gateway Geyser stands as the tallest fountain in North America and the second tallest in the world, matching the exact height of the Gateway Arch.
