Collier House, Historical residence at University of Oregon campus, Eugene, United States.
Collier House is an Italianate wooden structure located at the corner of University Street and 13th Avenue, displaying ornate architectural details and period construction methods. The building features carefully crafted wooden elements throughout its design.
Professor George Collier built this house in 1886 for his family, and the University of Oregon purchased it in 1893 as the third building on campus. This acquisition marked an important step in the university's early growth.
The building now serves as home to the musicology and ethnomusicology department, where students and faculty gather for performances and research activities. This role has transformed it into a vibrant center for musical learning on campus.
The house sits at a central corner of campus and is easily accessible from main pathways in the area. Visitors should note that it currently remains at its original location, though a future relocation to the Gerlinger Hall lawn is planned.
The original grounds included a cherry orchard, and some historic trees such as false cypress and Japanese maple still grow on the property today. These aged trees bear witness to more than a century of changes on campus.
