Vilas Bridge, Road bridge across Connecticut River between Windham County and Cheshire County, United States.
Vilas Bridge is a road bridge that crosses the Connecticut River between Bellows Falls and North Walpole. It features two concrete arch structures with open spandrels designed to span across the river.
The first bridge at this location was built in 1784 by Colonel Enoch Hale and charged crossing fees to travelers. The current structure was funded later by Charles Nathaniel Vilas, a hotel manager from New York.
A mounted plaque on the bridge features text from The Bridge Builder poem by Will Allen Dromgoole, representing local infrastructure heritage.
The bridge has been closed to traffic since 2009 and is not passable for vehicles. Visitors can view the structure from either riverbank or photograph it from the adjacent roads.
An engraved plaque on the bridge displays verses from the poem The Bridge Builder by Will Allen Dromgoole. This literary element transforms the structure into something more than just a practical crossing.
