Bellows Falls Times Building, historic newspaper plant on Bridge and Island Streets in Bellows Falls, Vermont
The Bellows Falls Times Building is an office building in Colonial Revival style located in Bellows Falls, Vermont. The complex consists of a brick main structure with a semicircular columned porch, a two-story wooden warehouse with canal-facing doors, and an adjoining garage, all constructed in the 1930s.
The building was constructed in the 1930s by the Vermont Newspaper Company after fire destroyed their previous offices. The Bellows Falls Times newspaper operated from this complex until the mid-1960s, when operations moved to other locations.
The building sits near the Connecticut River and Bellows Falls Canal, reflecting its former role in paper supply and newspaper distribution. The location is easily accessible on foot and forms part of a historic district with several other period buildings nearby.
The building was designed by architect Harold Holmes Owen from Concord, New Hampshire and features Dutch Revival elements with stepped gables. These architectural details were unusual for a newspaper building and give the structure a more formal appearance than typical for such a functional purpose.
