Living Coast Discovery Center

Living Coast Discovery Center is a nature facility in Chula Vista with multiple buildings, aquariums, and exhibits showcasing Southern California's coastal marine life. The grounds contain habitats for sharks, rays, reptiles, and various bird species within a protected marsh refuge.

The center was established to protect and rehabilitate endangered Eastern Pacific green sea turtles and local wildlife. This conservation mission has remained the driving force behind its work since its founding.

The center shares knowledge about how the bay ecosystem works and why protecting these habitats matters to the region. Visitors encounter living examples of the wildlife that depends on these coastal environments.

The facility opens Wednesday through Sunday, and visitors take a shuttle from the parking area to reach the grounds. Comfortable shoes and sun protection are helpful since much of the experience involves outdoor walking.

The facility operates rehabilitation programs for injured or sick sea turtles that are later released back into the ocean. This behind-the-scenes work is critical to the survival of the species.
