Stonington Opera House

The wooden theatre building features a prominent southern section with a hip roof, housing the stage area and dressing rooms at Main Street corner.
Built in 1912 after a fire destroyed the previous structure, the Stonington Opera House received National Register of Historic Places status in 1991.
Opera House Arts presents classical plays, contemporary performances, and first-run movies while maintaining its role as a central community gathering space.
The venue provides free admission for Hancock County students from kindergarten through grade 12 and offers discounted tickets for youth under 17.
The theatre contains an original 1910s projection booth constructed with asbestos tile, designed to contain potential fires from nitrate-based film stock.
