Town Tavern, Casino in West Las Vegas, United States
Town Tavern was a gaming establishment on Jackson Avenue in West Las Vegas with slot machines, gaming tables, and a stage for live entertainment. The venue also operated a connected restaurant and showroom for guests to enjoy during their visits.
The venue opened in 1955 under Earl Turmon's ownership and operated under several different names through the decades. It eventually closed and was destroyed by fire in the 2020s.
The owner opened this space as a gathering place for African-American entertainers and guests during a time of strict racial separation. Performers would come here to socialize after their shows elsewhere in the city.
The location sat on a street in West Las Vegas that was easily accessible to the local community. Visitors should know that the building no longer exists and the site is now only a historical reference point.
The place changed its name several times throughout its history, from Town Tavern to New Town Tavern and later Ultra New Town Tavern. Someone even tried to revive it as Tokyo Casino before it closed for good.
