Moulin Rouge Hotel, Casino hotel in West Las Vegas, United States
Moulin Rouge Hotel was a casino hotel at 900 West Bonanza Road in Nevada with 110 rooms, a swimming pool, and a 60-foot (18-meter) neon Eiffel Tower. The property offered gaming tables, dining areas, and a showroom for live performances.
The establishment opened on May 24, 1955, as the first major integrated casino in the city, allowing guests of all backgrounds to use its facilities. A meeting at its coffee shop on March 26, 1960, led to an agreement that ended segregation across the city.
The name references the famous Parisian cabaret and reflected the aspirations of this entertainment venue. Performers and visitors from different communities gathered here during its brief period of operation.
The property no longer stands, but markers along the Las Vegas Pioneer Trail reference its history. Visitors can explore the area to learn more about this chapter of local history.
The showroom presented the Tropi Can Can revue with an all-Black chorus line, which was unusual for major stages in the city at that time. Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, and other well-known entertainers performed here during its operation.
