Davenport Theatre, Theater venue in Manhattan, US

The Davenport Theatre is an Off-Broadway venue at 354 West 45th Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan. The five-story building, erected in 1915 as a United Electric Light & Power substation, held a 149-seat main stage on the ground floor and a 99-seat black box called The Loft on the third floor.

The five-story building went up in 1915 as an electric substation for United Electric Light & Power, built to supply reliable power to Broadway theatres and Times Square signs still running on direct current. After decommissioning it served as a Masonic lodge, and from 1974 the space housed the No Smoking Playhouse, then Primary Stages until 2004. It was renamed the Davenport Theatre in 2014 under producer Ken Davenport, became the NYC Tango dance hall in 2019, and reopened in 2022 as the AMT Theater.

The building's Masonic past survives above the entrance: a Spanish-language emblem reading "Gran Logia de Lengua Española Vales De Nueva York" and the initials ALGDGADU, for "A La Gloria Del Gran Arquitecto Del Universo". The venue has also changed names and uses repeatedly, from a tango dance hall called NYC Tango in 2019 to the AMT Theater in 2022, named for founding producer Al Tapper.

The theater is located in Midtown Manhattan near other entertainment venues and is easily accessible by public transportation. It is best to check ahead and reserve seats in advance to secure good viewing locations for your chosen performance.
