Wayfarers State Park, State park near Bigfork, Montana

Wayfarers State Park sits on the northeastern shore of Flathead Lake, combining forested sections, rocky shoreline formations, and scattered wildflower areas throughout its grounds. The terrain mixes open meadows with shaded woodland sections and direct access to a freshwater bay.

Wayfarers State Park covers 67 acres beside Flathead Lake, half a mile south of Bigfork. In 1998 the Harry Horn Native Plant Garden was planted there, with arrowleaf balsamroot, indian paintbrush, silky lupine and death camas among its wildflowers. In 2016 Montana State Parks announced plans to improve a bicycle campground area with spots for 10 campsites and bicycle-related amenities.

The park serves as a gathering place for people seeking waterfront time, with simple boat access points and picnic areas dotting the lakeshore. Visitors use the open meadows and forest paths as settings to connect with others while enjoying the quiet of the lake.

The park operates from April through October and provides camping spots with bear-resistant storage and shower facilities. Visitors should prepare for variable weather and the presence of wildlife while exploring trails and waterfront areas.

In 2016 Montana State Parks announced plans to develop a bicycle campground area with spots for 10 campsites and bicycle-related amenities; as of the source it was a plan, not a built facility. The park also hosts the annual Northern Rockies Paddlefest, which drew over 200 participants in 2013.
