Yellow Bay State Park

Yellow Bay State Park is located on the eastern shore of Flathead Lake with a wide gravelly beach and direct water access for swimming and boating. The grounds include open grass areas, scattered trees for shade, and a creek running through the property.

The area was established in 1941 by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks as part of the larger Flathead Lake State Park system. Its creation provided public access to this shoreline location.

The park sits within the Flathead Indian Reservation, and its name reflects the yellow wild cherries that grow throughout the surrounding area. In summer months, visitors can see how local orchards shape the landscape around the shoreline.

The park offers five tent camping sites operating from May through September with restrooms, drinking water, and grilling facilities on site. Plan your visit during these months since the area closes during winter.

The location sits at a higher elevation in the valley, creating cooler temperatures that offset the summer heat of the region. This geography makes it a natural spot to escape from warmer areas nearby.
