Walker Canyon

Walker Canyon is a canyon near Lake Elsinore that features rocky slopes and diverse vegetation of desert sage and chaparral shrubs. The terrain is crossed by a drainage system that carries water during the wetter months.

The canyon was acquired by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife from Caltrans in 1969 and later placed under special protection. It received the status of an ecological reserve in 2000.

The canyon serves as a protected environment for 34 native species through the Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan managed by regional authorities.

Access to the canyon involves a multi-hour hike that requires physical fitness and is best done during cooler months. The terrain is exposed with little shade, so bring plenty of water and sun protection.

The canyon features seasonal wildflower displays, prompting local authorities to implement a live feed system for monitoring bloom conditions.
