Heritage House

The Heritage House is a two-story museum building with high ceilings, wooden floors, and furnishings from the late 1800s filling each room. The original pieces and layout show how these spaces were designed and organized during that period.

The house was built in 1891 for a widow whose husband had been a successful citrus grower. It reflects the architectural choices made by wealthy residents during Riverside's early years as a growing city.

The house shows how wealthy families in the late 1800s lived and moved through their rooms daily. The spaces with their furnishings and objects reveal what mattered to these people and how they organized their daily routines.

Visitors should plan to move slowly through each room, taking time to notice the different details in every space. Coming earlier in the day or on quieter afternoons allows for a more comfortable pace while exploring.

The wallpapers in the rooms are original to the period and feature different patterns in each space based on the room's purpose. These wall coverings show how people expressed themselves through color and design in different areas of their homes.
