Castle Park, Family amusement park in Riverside, California
Castle Park is a 25-acre amusement park in Riverside, California, built around a medieval castle-themed building that houses a video game arcade. The grounds also hold an 18-hole miniature golf course and 21 rides, including the Merlin's Revenge junior rollercoaster and a Dentzel carousel.
The park was founded in 1976 by Bud Hurlbut, who had worked on developing Knott's Berry Farm. It began as an arcade and miniature golf venue before expanding to include rides and other attractions.
The main building is shaped like a medieval castle and holds the video arcade; Ghost Blasters, a laser-target dark ride by Sally Corporation, occupies its entire second floor. The park opened in 1976 as a castle-themed family entertainment center with a two-level arcade and outdoor miniature golf. Bud Hurlbut, who designed rides at Knott's Berry Farm, designed and built the park.
The park is located in southern Riverside and is easy to reach by car with ample parking available. Comfortable shoes are recommended since you will walk between different areas throughout the property.
The park's 1907 Dentzel carousel is one of its classic 1985 additions, not an original 1976 feature. The ride area also holds a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow-gauge railroad and the Sawmill Plunge log flume, which in 2019 threw a woman and her family into the water.
