Mount Rubidoux, Historical mountain park in Riverside, California, United States.
Mount Rubidoux is a hill in Riverside, California, rising to 405 meters (1329 feet) with paved roads and dirt paths. The protected area covers about 161 acres and offers different routes for walkers.
Louis Rubidoux bought part of Rancho Jurupa in 1847 and established Rancho Rubidoux, giving the hill its current name. The City of Riverside began developing the area as a public park in the early 20th century.
Every Easter morning, people of different faiths hike to the summit to watch the sunrise together. This tradition has connected the community for over a century and still defines the place today.
Access is through Ryan Bonaminio Park, which has parking and restrooms available. The paths open at sunrise and close at sunset.
In 2013, a conservation group bought about 0.43 acres at the summit through a public auction. This small parcel is now protected forever, while the city manages the rest of the park.
