Portland Memorial Mausoleum Mural, Large-scale mural at Portland Memorial Funeral Home, United States.
The Portland Memorial Mausoleum Mural is a large-scale artwork covering eight wall surfaces of the Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home building. The painting spreads across the exterior walls and displays scenes of nature and the surrounding landscape.
The mural was created in 2009 by artists Dan Cohen and Shane Bennett from ArtFX Murals. The work built upon an existing heron painting that was located on the lower west wall.
The mural shows how the city relates to nature by displaying the neighboring Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge and its wetland habitat. This depiction of the local environment becomes visible as visitors explore the area.
The mural can be viewed from multiple angles, especially from the OMSI Springwater Trail or while traveling on Interstate 5 through Portland. The best views occur during daylight hours and at quieter times of day.
The mural ranks among the largest painted surfaces in the United States and features local wildlife motifs. Its location on a historic crematory building creates a meaningful connection between the art and the building's purpose.
