Two Guns, Ghost town in Coconino County, Arizona
Two Guns is an abandoned settlement near Flagstaff and Winslow situated along the former Route 66. The site contains remains of several structures including a trading post, gas station, and the Canyon Diablo Bridge.
The Apache Death Cave marks where 42 Apache individuals died during a conflict with Navajo forces in 1878. The area was later developed as a trading post and stop along Route 66.
Harry Miller created a trading post with a zoo displaying mountain lions and Gila monsters to attract passing travelers. The location became known for selling Native American crafts to visitors along the old highway route.
The location is accessible from Interstate 40 and can be explored on foot without extensive preparation. Visitors should be aware that the buildings are deteriorating and the area may be difficult to navigate during extreme heat or poor weather conditions.
The Canyon Diablo Bridge was built in 1915 using an innovative steel design for its era. The structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 and stands as an example of early engineering in the desert.
