700 Market, Office building in downtown St. Louis, US
The six-story 700 Market building encompasses 130,000 square feet of office space and features a grand staircase leading to a formal entry plaza.
Architect Philip Johnson designed the structure in the 1970s as the General American Life Insurance Company headquarters before its registration as a historic place in 2008.
The 2014 renovation by The Koman Group maintained the original architectural elements while introducing modern sustainable design principles, earning LEED Gold Certification.
The building serves as the corporate headquarters for Spire Inc, a utility company that signed a 20-year lease following the 2015 redevelopment.
The fifth-floor rooftop includes an 18,000-square-foot courtyard with vegetated planters, trees, and a sodded lawn area offering views of St. Louis.
