Laclede Gas Building, Corporate skyscraper in Downtown St. Louis, United States.
The Laclede Gas Building is a 31-story office tower defined by extensive glass and steel surfaces that follow International Style principles. The facade displays clean lines with regular window patterns that run continuously up the entire height.
Architects Emery Roth & Sons designed this building in 1967 as headquarters for Laclede Gas Company. The company itself traced its roots to the 1800s when it started supplying gas to the city.
The building shows how companies in 1960s St. Louis wanted modern office spaces as they moved away from older downtown areas. You can see this shift reflected in the architecture, which deliberately rejected traditional design.
The building sits on Olive Street in downtown St. Louis and connects to the MetroLink station at 8th & Pine for easy access. Visitors can explore the lobby area to see the modern interior design.
The building generates its own electricity through natural gas generators, making it independent from the city power grid. This self-sufficient energy solution was an unusual approach for a large office tower when it was built.
