Proxy Falls, Double-tiered waterfall in Willamette National Forest, Oregon, US.

Proxy Falls is a two-tiered waterfall in Oregon's Willamette National Forest where water plunges over volcanic cliffs into a basin surrounded by coniferous trees. The upper drop flows into a lower cascade, with both stages framed by dark lava rock formations created long ago.

The falls took shape during the last glacial period when glaciers carved through volcanic rock and created the hanging valley where water flows today. These processes left behind the distinctive lava formations and cliff structure visible at the site.

Photographers from across the region gather at the falls throughout different seasons to capture its changing appearance against the forest backdrop.

A loop trail from Highway 242 takes about an hour to walk and passes through lava fields and forest with several viewing areas along the way. The path is accessible year-round, though it can be slippery during winter months.

After plunging over the cliffs, the water soaks into the porous volcanic ground and does not form a visible stream continuing downstream. This unusual feature means visitors will not see where the water goes after it lands.
