Tamolitch Blue Pool, Natural pool in Willamette National Forest, Oregon, US.

Tamolitch Blue Pool is a natural basin in Willamette National Forest fed by underground springs along the McKenzie River. The water displays an intense blue color and reaches depths of approximately 30 feet.

This geological formation developed over 1,600 years ago through volcanic activity from Belknap Crater. The underground water system formed as a result of the volcanic processes that shaped the landscape.

The McKenzie River National Recreation Trail connects visitors to 26 miles of Pacific Northwest landscapes through dense forests of Douglas fir trees.

The trail is moderately difficult with a round trip of about 4.2 miles and 375 feet of elevation gain. Arriving early is advisable since the trailhead parking fills quickly on pleasant days.

Although the basin is deeper than it appears, water remains around 37 degrees Fahrenheit year-round making it look shallower than it is. This constant cold temperature comes from underground springs that never warm significantly, making swimming uncomfortable.
