Santiam Wagon Road, distrikt historik në Shtetet e Bashkuara
Santiam Wagon Road is a historic trail running through Oregon forests and mountains. The path follows the original wagon route and leads visitors past old bridges, large boulders, and waterfalls that have shaped the landscape for generations.
The road was built in the late 1800s to connect settlers and traders across the Cascade Mountains. From 1865 to 1939, it served as the main route for wagons, horses, and stagecoaches carrying livestock, freight, and people.
The name 'Wagon Road' reflects its origin as a route for freight wagons and travelers. The worn pathways visible today show how people and animals once used this corridor to connect and supply communities across Central Oregon.
The trail is easy to walk and suitable for families, especially on the flat sections of the old road. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the ground can become muddy after rain and weather can change conditions quickly.
House Rock is a large overhanging boulder along the trail that once sheltered travelers, and its cavity becomes a waterfall during storms. Nearby House Rock Falls displays impressive water flow in spring, cascading through this natural shelter before joining the creek below.
