Qasr Shemamok

Qasr Shemamok is an archaeological site near Erbil featuring extensive excavation areas across flat terrain. The central mound rises noticeably above the surrounding plain, with remains of the lower settlement spread toward the south.

The location served as a regional administrative center during the Middle Assyrian period under rulers such as Adad-nirari I. Settlement here extends much further back to Hurrian times and continues through the Sassanian era.
