Bandar Sunway, human settlement in Malaysia
Bandar Sunway is a planned township in Subang Jaya, Malaysia, made up of residential blocks, malls, hotels, and a theme park built on former mining land. The whole area sits on a compact footprint where most daily needs are reachable on foot or by a short drive.
The land was once an open-pit tin mine and was transformed in the 1980s by the Sunway Group into a township. The decision to build on mined-out ground shaped the layout of the whole area, including the artificial lake at its center.
The neighborhood reflects how modern Malaysian residential communities blend living spaces with shopping and leisure in close proximity. Residents use the central areas regularly for daily errands and social gatherings.
The township is served by a bus rapid transit line connecting it to central Kuala Lumpur, and several stops are placed near the main shopping areas. Visitors arriving by car will find parking at the large malls, though weekends tend to get busy.
The artificial lake at the center of Bandar Sunway is not a designed feature added for looks but the flooded pit left behind by the old tin mine. It now serves as the water source and backdrop for the theme park built right next to it.
