Axiata Arena, Indoor sports venue in Bukit Jalil, Malaysia
Axiata Arena is an enclosed sports hall in Bukit Jalil, a district in southern Kuala Lumpur, serving as a venue for team sports and music events. The stands rise across several levels and offer space for thousands of spectators depending on the type of event, while the central playing floor adapts to different formats.
The hall opened in 1998 as part of the National Sports Complex and hosted gymnastics competitions during that year's Commonwealth Games. The building was later renamed after telecommunications company Axiata, which took over the naming rights and continued using the hall for national and international events.
The Axiata name honors the Malaysian telecommunications group that acquired naming rights and turned the hall into a recognized venue for major sporting events and concerts. Visitors see national badminton championships and international tournaments here, where local athletes play before sold-out crowds and transform the hall into a loud arena.
The site sits in the national sports complex of Bukit Jalil and connects to public transport including a nearby LRT line station. Visitors find parking around the grounds, and entry usually takes place through the main entrances on the north side of the hall.
The hall transformed into a vaccination center during the pandemic and temporarily housed one of the country's largest vaccination sites with long queues forming outside the entrances. This temporary function showed how flexibly the building could adapt to urgent public needs.
