Sibu Airport, airport in Malaysia
Sibu Airport is a modern aerodrome located about 24 kilometers from Sibu city in Sarawak and serves as the main access point to the region. The terminal, which opened in 2012, features 18 check-in counters, 14 immigration lanes, four boarding bridges, and two baggage carousels, handling more than 1.5 million passengers annually.
The site began as a military airfield in 1962 before transitioning to commercial operations. The new terminal that opened in 2012 marked a major modernization effort, expanding facilities to handle the growing number of travelers connecting through central Sarawak.
Taxis depart from a stand in the arrivals hall and cost around 35 to 45 RM for the trip to city center, taking about 25 to 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can use the Grab ride-hailing app, local buses, or rent a car for flexible exploration of the surrounding region.
The airport code SBW is used by airlines and travel agencies worldwide, while the international location code WBGS connects Sarawak with other regional flight networks. These technical identifiers help position Sibu quickly within global aviation systems.
