Durin Bridge, Road bridge in Sarawak, Malaysia
Durin Bridge is a road crossing over the Rajang River connecting Sibu and the Durin area through an arched structure. The crossing consists of two parallel sections, each with two lanes moving in opposite directions.
The original crossing opened in 2006, replacing a ferry that had been the main way to cross the river. A second parallel bridge was added in 2020 to handle the growing amount of traffic on the route.
The bridge marks a shift in how local communities move and interact, replacing dependence on boats with road travel. It has become a visible symbol of the region's modern development and connects people who were previously separated by water.
The crossing is part of the Pan Borneo Highway and serves as a major route for cars and trucks between regions. Be prepared for congestion during peak traffic times, as this is a busy transport corridor.
The two sections were built in different years, giving the crossing a distinctive look when you observe it closely. The older part shows engineering choices that differ noticeably from the newer addition.
