Recuay Province

The province encompasses sections of the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra mountain ranges, containing numerous peaks and glacial lakes across 2,304 square kilometers.

The territorial entity received its official provincial status through Law 11326 in April 1950, marking its establishment as one of twenty provinces in the Ancash Region.

The population combines Spanish and Quechua languages, with census data showing Spanish at 63 percent and Quechua at 36 percent among first-language speakers.

The province divides into ten districts including Catac, Cotaparaco, Huayllapampa, Llacllin, Marca, Pampas Chico, Pararin, Recuay, Tapacocha, and Ticapampa, with Recuay city as capital.

Natural thermal springs emerge throughout the territory, including Quñuqqucha, Uqhuschaka, Pachaqutu, Pumapampa, Burgos, and Utuco, offering mineral-rich waters.
