FOB Armadillo, Military forward operating base in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
FOB Armadillo was a military forward operating base in Helmand Province positioned at 869 meters (2,850 feet) above sea level near the town of Gereshk. The installation featured concrete helipads and defensive structures for coalition forces.
The United Kingdom and Denmark established the base in January 2008 as part of Task Force Helmand during Operation Herrick. It was renamed to FOB Budwan in 2010 and closed with full dismantling completed in January 2011.
The base became the subject of an award-winning documentary that focused on the experiences of Danish soldiers deployed there in 2010.
The base was one of three forward operating positions around Gereshk that functioned as a coordinated network for coalition military operations. This arrangement supported operations across the wider Helmand Province area.
The location carried two different names during its operation, reflecting shifts in command structure and strategic planning. The name change from Armadillo to Budwan occurred mid-deployment as operational priorities evolved.
