Forward Operating Base Edinburgh, Forward operating base in Musa Qala District, Afghanistan.
Forward Operating Base Edinburgh was a military installation in Musa Qala District, Afghanistan, equipped with multiple gravel helipads. The base operated at an elevation of 798 meters above sea level to support operations across the region.
The installation was established in 2007 to support British and American operations during Operation Herrick in Afghanistan. It closed in July 2012 after serving as a forward position for five years.
Multiple military units, including the Royal Gurkha Rifles and Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 363, brought their operational methods to this combat outpost.
The base was located in a remote mountainous area with limited road access and no civilian facilities nearby. Visitors could only access the site during its operational period through military channels.
The location was featured in a documentary episode with Ross Kemp documenting life with the Royal Irish Regiment at the base. This rare footage provided viewers with insight into daily operations at this remote outpost.
