Tomb of Ahmad Shah Durrani

The octagonal structure rises from a basaltic platform, featuring a large blue-tiled dome and decorated niches with yellow and green patterns throughout.

The tomb, constructed in the late eighteenth century, houses the remains of Ahmad Shah Durrani, who established the Durrani Empire and modern Afghanistan.

The mausoleum forms part of a religious complex containing the Kherqa Sharif shrine, where an important Islamic relic is preserved.

Visitors can access both the main chamber with its decorated walls and ceiling, and the underground room containing the royal family graves.

Inside the tomb, Afghan carpets cover marble floors while a gold-embroidered velvet cloth drapes the marble sarcophagus of the emperor.
