Mirditë District

Mirditë District covers northwestern Albania across mountains, valleys, and river systems spread throughout seven municipalities. The terrain features steep elevation changes and natural landscapes that shape how communities are spread across the territory.

The region stayed independent during Ottoman control and kept its Roman Catholic faith while neighboring areas underwent different changes. This distinction shaped its lasting cultural identity.

The seven municipalities hold onto traditional Albanian mountain customs through regular celebrations and musical performances that mark the community's identity.

The A1 Highway provides the main connection to reach the district from surrounding regions and makes travel between areas manageable. Local transportation between towns operates throughout daylight hours with regular services available.

The Fan River Canyon cuts through the landscape creating distinctive stone formations shaped by water flow over time. These natural rock features stand out as an unusual geological element within the broader mountain geography.
