Yeghvard Church

The Holy Mother of God Church features a rectangular external facade with a cylindrical drum topped by a conical dome supported by twelve columns.

Built in 1301 by architect Vardapet Shahik during the Zakarid dynasty, this church marked the millennium of Christianity becoming Armenia's state religion.

The exterior walls display intricate carvings of the Virgin Mary with Jesus, along with animal motifs such as bulls and lions near the entrance.

The church sits in the center of Yeghvard, located 39 kilometers southwest of Hrazdan in the Kotayk Province of Armenia.

The second floor access differs from similar churches by using movable wooden stairs instead of permanent stone steps found in other Armenian churches.
