Yeghvard Church, Medieval church in Yeghvard, Armenia

Yeghvard Church is an Armenian house of worship with a rectangular external form topped by a cylindrical drum supported by twelve columns and crowned with a cone-shaped dome. The structure stands in the town center and displays the architectural proportions and design typical of Armenian religious buildings from its era.

The building was constructed in 1301 under the Zakarid dynasty during a period of religious importance in Armenian history. Its creation reflected the spiritual developments taking place across the region during that era.

The exterior walls display carved reliefs of the Virgin Mary holding Jesus, along with animal figures including bulls and lions near the doors. These decorative elements reflect the spiritual traditions that shaped this place and remain visible to anyone visiting today.

The church sits at the town center in Yeghvard, making it easy to locate and visit. Access is straightforward as the building stands openly in the public area without barriers or restricted entry times.

Access to the upper level uses a movable wooden staircase rather than permanent stone steps typical of other Armenian churches of the period. This unusual approach demonstrates how builders adapted their design choices specifically for this location.
