Tikei

Tikei is an atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago, featuring a rectangular shape typical of many Pacific atolls. The island consists of a reef ring that encloses a lagoon and stretches across several kilometers.

The atoll was first documented by Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen in 1722. It later received different names from various European sailors during their Pacific voyages.

The former inhabitants of Tikei maintained their primary settlement in Tereporepo village, following traditional Polynesian customs and maritime practices.

Visitors should note that the atoll sits in a remote Pacific area and is difficult to access. Preparation for isolated conditions and limited resources is necessary for any visit.

The atoll is uninhabited today, though it once had a settlement called Tereporepo. This change shows how human settlement has shifted in this remote Pacific area.
