Casas y Parque Prochelle, Historical monument and cultural center in Isla Teja, Valdivia, Chile.
Casas y Parque Prochelle consists of two wooden mansions built in the early 20th century on Isla Teja with clear German architectural style. A public park connects the buildings with a wooden waterfront walkway and planted gardens creating a unified green space along the river.
The first house was completed in 1902 and a second residence was added later, both built as private homes for the Prochelle family. They date from the period when German colonists were actively settling the south and leaving their architectural mark on the region.
The buildings showcase timber construction and carved wooden details that German settlers brought to southern Chile. Walking through the rooms, you notice how this European influence shaped the local architecture and visual character of the area.
The site is open to the public for walking through the gardens and along the wooden waterfront path. The first house operates as a cultural center with rotating exhibitions and artistic events inside.
The garden contains both native Chilean plants and species that German settlers introduced and cultivated. This mix of vegetation shows visibly how two cultures met and coexisted in this place.
