Museo Colonial Alemán de Frutillar, Archaeological museum in Frutillar, Chile.

The Museo Colonial Alemán de Frutillar is an open-air museum made up of several wooden buildings that display how German settlers lived in Southern Chile. The rooms contain original household items, farming equipment, and tools from the 1800s arranged to show how people worked and lived.

German settlers began arriving in this region during the 1800s, bringing their building skills and farming methods to the local landscape. Over time, their influence shaped the character of the town and left behind structures and objects that tell their story.

The collection reflects how German settlers organized their homes and worked the land, with period furniture and tools arranged to show daily routines. Walking through the rooms, you get a sense of how families lived and what mattered to them in this remote part of Chile.

The site sits at the corner of Pérez Rosales and Prat streets, making it easy to locate from the town center. The various buildings are spread across the grounds with walking paths connecting them, so you can move at your own pace and visit the areas that interest you most.

A working blacksmith on the grounds creates custom horseshoes for visitors while practicing methods from the colonial era. Watching the smith at work offers a rare chance to see a trade that built this settlement come to life.
