Torre Campanario, Office skyscraper in Plaza de Armas, Temuco, Chile
Torre Campanario is a 20-story office building standing about 70 meters tall next to Saint Joseph Cathedral in downtown Temuco. The structure provides commercial workspace and ranks among the tallest buildings in the Araucanía region.
Completed in 1992, the building was designed specifically to generate rental income supporting the adjacent cathedral's operations. Architect G. Rendel and structural engineer Roberto Stocker created the project as a financial resource for the religious institution.
The name references bell towers, yet the building itself is a modern office center rather than a religious structure. It demonstrates how contemporary architecture shapes the central plaza alongside older landmarks.
The building sits directly on Plaza de Armas next to the cathedral and is easily accessible on foot. Since it functions as a commercial office space, public access is limited to the lobby area and surrounding outdoor spaces.
Despite its name suggesting a church tower, the skyscraper was never used as a religious building but always functioned as pure office space. The name reference to bell towers is more conceptual, reflecting its connection to the neighboring cathedral.
