Monumento a la Solidaridad, Valparaíso

The copper-covered sculpture stands 12 meters tall at the central reservation of Avenida Argentina, next to the National Congress building in Valparaíso.

Chilean sculptor Mario Irarrázabal created this monument in 1994, and its inauguration took place on January 10, 1995, as part of a larger unrealized project.

The sculpture represents intertwined threads forming a greater force, symbolizing the connection and mutual support between individuals in society.

The monument sustained severe damage during fires in February 2020, leading municipal authorities to plan its removal and the recycling of its copper materials.

The structure was intended to be part of four monuments representing solidarity, participation, democracy, and freedom, but financial constraints limited construction to only this one.
