Iglesia del Corazón de María, Valparaíso, Gothic Revival church in El Almendral, Valparaíso, Chile.

Iglesia del Corazón de María is a Gothic Revival church in the El Almendral neighborhood of Valparaíso, featuring a main nave with a smaller side nave and a tower topped with bells and a clock. The building combines traditional architectural style with modern materials, using steel framing and laminated wood ceilings throughout its interior.

The church was founded in 1895 by the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and suffered extensive damage during the 1906 earthquake. Reconstruction took several years, and the building reopened in 1913 with reinforced structure and materials.

The church displays various national flags that represent different foreign communities in the region, changing them for specific celebrations and occasions. This rotating collection of flags reflects Valparaiso's multicultural makeup and shows how the place remains connected to people from many countries.

The church sits at the corner of Uruguay and Pocuro streets at the base of La Cruz hill, making it straightforward to locate. It is now administered by Valparaiso Diocese, and while the exterior is easily viewed, access to the interior follows the regular schedule for visitors.

The building showcases an unusual blend of traditional Gothic design with construction techniques developed after the 1906 earthquake for greater structural resilience. This mix of old style with modern engineering methods makes it a notable example of how seismic events shaped architectural adaptation in the region.
